Our History

The Larches Trust is a registered charity founded in 1995 by a group of families to provide care and opportunities for adults over 19 years of age who have a learning disability.

The Larches was created out of our deep concern for who would provide a supportive family home for our sons and daughters beyond our lifetimes.

The Need

People with a learning disability represent a section of the community that enjoys few privileges, who experience social discrimination and are generally undervalued and underestimated by society. Most are socially excluded, with few chances to develop their individuality or to contribute their skills to the community.

While high quality services have been developed by some organisations there is a lack of capacity leading to insufficient opportunities for people with learning disabilities to take up. The Larches Trust will provide high quality services to adults with learning disabilities to enable them to lead full and creative lives.

Our Purpose

The Larches believes in discovering, encouraging and supporting the diverse abilities, needs, wants and dreams of adults with learning disabilities, within an environment of unconditional acceptance so that they may lead full and creative lives.

Our Aims

In the fulfillment of their purpose, The Larches Trust aims to:

  • Provide an exciting, meaningful and stimulating Education and Opportunities Programme including independent living skills.
  • Develop and run a vibrant, Leisure and Recreation Programme where each person is encouraged to experience friendship, being part of the community and a fulfilling social life.
  • To establish our first caring home for 3-5 residents, where each person feels a sense of belonging.

Our Beliefs

Our holistic approach respects and values each individual, celebrating different abilities and strengths. Central to our ethos is the individual development of self-esteem, confidence and personal growth. The Larches Trust is committed to providing a person-centred service where people enjoy being part of the community in which they live. We believe that each individual should be respected and valued for their differences, abilities and strengths.
